Adopt a country program

As part of the Bell Aliant Get Active! School Program, all elementary and secondary schools in the Greater Moncton Area are invited to adopt one of the 170 countries which will be competing.

Create a Banner

Participating classes and schools are invited to create a banner for their adopted country or countries. The banners will be displayed either at the Moncton International Airport for athletes to see as they arrive or at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium on the Université de Moncton campus as part of a welcome mural for participants. At the end of the Championships, athletes will be invited to take the banners home.

Visitors’ Guide

In groups, students will examine travel brochures from around the region and will generate a list of information included in the brochures. The class will discuss and group information into relevant categories. Classes will then create their own visitors’ guides! These guides will be distributed to athletes for use during their stay in the Greater Moncton Area.

The IAAF World Junior Championships School Program

All schools have the opportunity to take part in school based activities surrounding the Moncton 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships. These activities are designed to stimulate creativity, while at the same time providing students the opportunity to grasp the magnitude of the event. The following activities have been developed to be easily incorporated into the existing curriculum:

Discussion Series

The discussion series aims to provide teachers with the opportunity to incorporate challenges related to the IAAF World Junior Championships into their classes. A variety of discussion topics have been provided which can be easily integrated into the existing curriculum. Classes can feel free to come up with other topics of discussion which relate to hosting an international athletics event.
